Ways To Help Your Child Get Ready For Volleyball Season

If you have a child that is an athlete and has chosen volleyball as their fall sport, then you may find yourself wondering what you can and should do to help them get ready for their volleyball season. Get to know some of the ways that you can help your child get ready for the volleyball season. Then, you can start taking steps to support your child right away. 

Sign Them Up for Summer Training Camps

One of the best ways that you can help your child prepare for the upcoming volleyball season is to sign them up for summer training camps. Many schools offer these camps to students interested in joining (or rejoining) sports teams. It is a great way to keep up with skills and training as well as to get to know the coaches. 

However, if your child's school does not offer such training camps, there are recreational leagues and even some colleges that offer training programs for high school students. Some of these camps can be highly competitive and give your child a leg-up on their competition when tryouts come around. 

Make Sure They Keep Up with Weight Training

Another important part of being ready for the volleyball season is to keep up with weight training throughout the summer. While many players seem to see weight training as something less important than actually playing volleyball and practicing skills like serving and passing, the reality is that weight training is an essential part of honing and improving those skills. 

Building lean muscle mass is vital to being able to jump high enough to hit and block well, to serve strongly, and to move and dive for the ball to dig and pass. Make sure your child keeps up with summer weight training either through their school or through a gym membership. Weight training three days a week in addition to specific skills training will improve your child's volleyball game exponentially. 

Help Them Develop a Nutrition Plan

All of the practicing and weight training in the world will go to waste if your child does not maintain a healthy diet as well. Nutrition plans for athletes are important to avoid muscle cramps and injuries, for recovery after working out, and to keep the body lean and healthy. As such, you want to be sure that you are helping your child get the proper balanced diet for their athletic endeavors. 

For athletes, it is ideal to eat five to six small meals a day as well as consume snacks as needed. Ideally, your child would eat two hours before a workout and have a light snack an hour to ninety minutes before as well. This will ensure that your child's body has the fuel it needs to burn calories and build strength and suppleness. If you meal prep for your child, try to prep six meals a day plus small snacks for them to just quickly grab and eat. This will help keep them on their nutrition plan.
